A few days later, Missy plugs in the vacuum and receives a big shock. “Ouch!” But she actually enjoys the feeling through her body.

She tries vacuuming, after returning to a YouTube video about housework several times. She dusts the house, although there are very few surfaces to dust.

When Matt arrives home that night, she follows him down the hall again. The same scenario repeats again.

“Matt, I need something…else,” she says as he climbs off of her and then off of the bed.

He quickly pulls on his clothes. “You usually want to be left to yer own devices—like, literally. You always said you preferred it that way.”

Her face clearly registers absolutely no understanding of what he’s talking about. Matt opens a drawer in the nightstand, pulls something out, and drops it on the bed. And leaves.

Missy picks the item up and examines it. She’d come across it before, in her explorations of the house, but since she had no comprehension of the product, she didn’t pay any attention to it. She locates the on switch and is surprised to hear a loud buzz. She presses it against her arm, then her stomach, then that fiery, tingling part below. She’s utterly amazed to discover how loud these human vocal chords of hers can get—even louder than the woman in the movie back in the motel outside of Denver.

And she finds herself in a much better mood after that. “Definitely quite the gig they have down here,” she says to Diamond Girl the next morning.
